IND vs SL ASIA CUP T20 MATCH REPORT
India seal final berth after bowlers & Kohli come good again
India have been scripting similar wins this tournament with the bowlers on the hunt for quick wickets, Hardik Pandya striking with crucial wickets in the middle overs and Virat Kohli taking the team to the finishing line was the pattern in the previous game. The India – Sri Lanka game was no different. Ashish Nehra drew first blood when Chandimal’s attempted slog resulted in the safe hands of the captain M S Dhoni. Bumrah got his act going when Jayasuriya knicked a good length ball on the off stump to Dhoni. Dilshan, the experienced T20 player in the Sri Lankan campaign, did not stay too long after he scored a couple boundaries. Pandya got him to sky a bouncer to fine leg which Ashwin latched on with glee. The rest of the middle order batsmen made useful contributions with Kapugedera top scoring with a well made 30. But that didn’t look to be challenging enough for the formidable Indian batting line up. Perera and Kulasekara scored 34 runs off the last 3 overs, something that the Indian think tank will look to cut down on in their endeavor to lift the trophy.
In the Indian Innings, Kulasekara came back with the ball to send Dhawan and Rohit back to the dug-out in successive overs bowled by him. Virat Kohli, the run machine, did not let his fans down though. He scored a brilliant 56 continuing his form that began with the series in Australia. Suresh Raina stayed with him for a while scoring a run-a-ball 25 & then holing out to mid-off on the 26th ball he faced. Yuvraj Singh came in with a license to kill. His 35 of just eighteen balls included three sixes and an equal number of fours. India needed the thrust that Yuvraj gave them as they needed 69 of 53 balls when he walked in to bat. They could not afford to lose the in-form Kohli trying to go over the top. Yuvraj was out with just a few runs to get and the finishing touches were applied with a few lusty hits by Dhoni and Kohli. In the end India cruised to victory in the 20th over. Virat received yet another Man of the match trophy for his mature batting and with a an average of over 50 is now one of the top T 20 batsmen in the world.
With this win, India made it through to the finals of the Asia Cup, their last match against UAE being a mere formality.
